Your Senior Portraits are the IDEAL place to express your unique style, a point of view, or even just a place to have fun and live out a fantasy. It just takes a little dreaming and scheming to make your images stand out and look AMAZING.
After we book your session date, you can begin the creative process! Here are a few steps you can use to make this process fun and easy.
1. Conceptualize an idea: Preparation and Collaboration
Collect images and ideas-Pinterest
Pinterest is a great place to start. Start a “Mood Board” to collect your visual ideas.
If the digital route is not your style, go analog and use magazine clippings, bits of fabric, ribbon, and inspiration from life. Nature, photographs, etc! Anything can be inspiration! Collect your ideas on a corkboard or glue them to a poster board.
What is your personal style? Is it edgy, vintage or whimsical?
The wonderful thing about wielding a camera is that I get to take photos. The not so great thing is that I need subjects to practice on! There is a combination of features on a face that a camera loves; and cracking that code can be a mystery. It can be a shot in the dark sometimes. I know, I know...tough job right? Asking beautiful people to hang out with me and look beautiful? It's not as easy as you think! It can be uncomfortable for me, and for them. So I did ask this young woman my husband works with, and after some thought, she emailed me and said yes. And I am so glad she did! I not only had a lot of fun taking her photos.
The creative process for this shoot really started with the lake property at Driftwood Point. This rustic wooded lake property on beautiful Lake C'DA in Idaho has a very modern Pacific NW feel. I just loved the idea of the handsome lumberjack sort of look that has been very trendy right now for men in a wedding. How rugged and sexy! I loved brainstorming what kind of bride this man would wed...a woodnymph-a romantic, beautiful girl. The flowers would be lush and bright with fern and succulents, the staging romantic and glam combined with rustic elements. We incorporated driftwood and some of the pink rocks from the lakeshore on the cake (trimmed with Pink Himalayan Sea Salt!). I absolutely loved how everything came together. I had an amazing team: Florals by Dragon Floral Design; MUA Julie Farley at The Make-up Studio; Hair by MattieKay Tull for House of POp; Jewelry by Pounder's Jewelry; Menswear by Jos A Banks; Gown by Bridal Collections; Cake by Batch Bakeshop; Paper by Mango Ink; Rentals by A to Z Rentals and The Attic Vintage Rentals; models Savana Fredericks and Sam Ouimet.
I shot these photos with the AMAZING model, Emily Erickson-who I had been admiring for a while and was thrilled to bits when she agreed to model for me. When the team of talented folks all said yes to me on this silly vision of mine? Well, I could hardly wait to get clicking. When can we do more?
This bride loves indie music festivals, mixing vintage with modern, and being a bit bold when it comes to her wedding style. She is a cashmere kitten in high-heeled boots. She is a viking princess. Strong, beautiful and ready to write her own lyrics.

Taking photos is just one of the ways I can express my creativity and appreciation for unique beauty. I am a visual person, and I truly enjoy opening my eyes and capturing life. It is all art, and I revel in its creation. This is where I post my inspirations, ideas and overall brainstorms that fuel my creativity.
